Green Music BBQ
Last month we had an inspiring Green Music BBQ in the context of this year’s c/o pop. The network event was hosted by the Green Music Initiative and with the kind support of our partners, the EnergieAgentur.NRW, c/o pop and Europareise.
Special focal point of the Green Music BBQ was green clubbing and related issues.
Within the pilot project Green Club Index (GCI) 6 Clubs in North Rhine-Westphalia managed to lower their electricity consumption tremendously (up to 50%) with the help of the Green Music Initiative (GMI) and the EnergieAgentur.NRW. This helped not only to reduce the environmental impact of the clubs but also to realise big cost savings. Recently a second GCI Project was set up in the Rhein-Main area and several more regional projects are about to start within the next months. (Area of Mannheim, Munich, Hamburg and Switzerland). Furthermore, GMI and the EnergieAgentur.NRW are in the process of developing a green club label and a green club training workshop for energy consultants.
We believe that the Green Music BBQ was an unique opportunity to share experience and to explore the potential a strategy of this kind has as well as to establish ways of how it can be implemented. Selected high-ranking representatives of the music, politics, science, media and environmental associations discussed how innovative approaches in the music industry can lead to concrete results in the reduction of carbon emissions.
Three input statements offered a variety of topics for rich and lively discussions.
